growing up
Full Name: Niels Henrick David Bohr
Born: 7 October 1885
Died: 18 November 1962 (Stroke)
Niels grew up in Copenhagen, raised with his siblings Harald and Jenny by their father Christian Bohr and mother Ellen Alder. Christian was a well-known physicist at the University of Copenhagen and Niels's mother came from a born and raised Jewish family, who were well supported by their wealth.
Niels attended Gammelholm Grammar School before joining his father’s University, University of Copenhagen in 1903 as an undergraduate.
Admittedly, Bohr was not the brightest of the bunch but he would usually sit within the top 5 people in the class. His strongest subject was more likely to be P.E. (Niels Bohr Biography, 2003)
His love and interest for physics were brought to life by his father, rather than the teaches. In 1903 when he attended University, he studied physics as his main and mathematics, astronomy and chemistry as minors, eventually earning a doctorate degree in Physics.
He married Margethe Nourland (1912-1962) and raised four children; Aage Bohr, Ernest Bohr, Hans Henrik Bohr and Erik Bohr.
